Walmart has announced it is unlikely to meet its climate goals for 2025 and 2030 due to challenges in energy policy, infrastructure, and the availability of affordable low-carbon technologies. The retailer aimed to reduce emissions by 35% by 2025 and 65% by 2030 compared to 2015 levels, but progress has stalled, particularly due to increased emissions from store openings, outdated refrigeration, and transportation. Despite having a lower carbon footprint per sales unit, these factors are hindering the company’s emission reduction efforts.
