A report by The Guardian reveals that China is attempting to acquire AI technology through collaborations with UK universities for military purposes. Concerns have been raised by prominent figures in the UK government regarding the security risks of academic collaborations with China. The collaboration between the Chinese state-owned enterprise Jiangsu Automation Research Institute, a leading developer of unmanned warships, and Imperial College London has sparked controversy, with emails indicating Chinese intentions to utilize the university's software for military use. Despite assurances from Imperial College London that no research was conducted and funds received were returned, critics warn of the potential risks involved in such partnerships.
