During the summer, precautions should be taken when buying and storing seasonal fruits like watermelon to avoid consuming harmful bacteria. Clinical toxicology nurse Tam Dun-ci warned of cases where individuals got infected with Listeria bacteria from watermelon, leading to sepsis and death. It is advised to remove the plastic wrap covering pre-cut watermelon, cut off a thin layer of the surface, store it in a container, and refrigerate to prevent bacterial growth. Using a clean utensil for consumption and avoiding leaving leftovers uncovered are recommended to prevent bacterial contamination.
