According to TTV News, as of June 13, 2024, the hospitality industry is experiencing a severe labor shortage, yet many young people are struggling to find jobs. Statistics from the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) show that the youth unemployment rate for 25 to 29-year-olds was highest in Taipei last year, followed closely by Kaohsiung and Tainan. Despite some Taipei eateries raising starting salaries to 40,000 NTD, they still can't find workers. Experts suggest that industries facing labor shortages, even with increased wages, lack competitiveness and need higher-paying sectors such as technology and finance to create more job opportunities to address youth unemployment issues.
