Wealthy British-Indian Family Sentenced to 4 Years for Exploiting Domestic Workers

Reported 8 months ago

Four members of the Hinduja family, one of the wealthiest in the UK, were convicted and sentenced to 4 to 4.5 years in prison for exploiting Indian workers, confiscating their passports, prohibiting them from leaving the house, and making them work over 18 hours a day for only £7 (around $10) per day, far below the legal requirements. The workers also claimed that the family spent more money on their dogs than on the domestic workers. The defense argued that the workers received adequate benefits and were not isolated, and will appeal the ruling.
