In the fast-paced modern society, headphones have become an essential accessory for many people whether commuting, walking, or enjoying personal space in cafes. Prolonged headphone use not only risks damaging hearing but also the possibility of 'mold in ears.' Dr. Hu Haochun, Chief of Otorhinolaryngology at Fude Hospital, warns of the risk of ear mold due to the hot and humid summer weather if ears are not properly protected. Moisture in the ear canal combined with prolonged headphone use can create an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, increasing the risk of infection. Dr. Hu advises against inserting cotton swabs into the ears and recommends professional cleaning for earwax troubles. Additionally, he suggests allowing ears to 'breathe' by avoiding long-term use of headphones and earplugs.
