During a questioning session in the Legislative Yuan, KMT legislator Weng Xiao-Ling criticized President Lai Ching-te as a traitor to the Republic of China and urged Defense Minister Gu Li Xiong not to forget the idea of 'counterattacking the mainland,' even displaying a 1912 'Autumn Maple' map to inquire if Gu acknowledges it as the territory of the ROC. DPP legislator Lin Junxian questioned if this act was intentionally causing chaos in Taiwan, while also questioning if Weng wanted to declare war with over 10 countries along the border. Gu reiterated that the effective governance of the ROC is in Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, and that the mainland area is part of ROC territory according to the Constitution and laws. This led to criticism and accusations from DPP members.
