On June 14, 2024, Western Digital introduced an AI data lifecycle architecture consisting of six phases to define the optimal storage combination for large-scale AI workloads. By leveraging a combination of enterprise SSDs and HDDs, this architecture aims to assist enterprises in planning and developing advanced storage infrastructure to maximize AI technology investments, increase efficiency, and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) of AI workflows. The Ultrastar DC SN861 SSD, Western Digital's first enterprise PCIe Gen 5.0 storage solution, offers up to 16TB of storage capacity, significantly improving random read performance compared to previous generations and is suitable for large language model training, inference, and AI service deployment.
