The whale-watching season has started off the coast of Niteroi in Rio de Janeiro, where tourists participate in expeditions to get close to humpback whales migrating from Antarctica to breed in warm Brazilian waters. The program is a joint initiative by Niteroi's tourism agency and researchers from Amigos da Jubarte, aiming to use tourism as a means of species protection. Tourists have the opportunity to witness the majesty of these marine mammals and other sea creatures during the six-hour trips, following strict environmental regulations for the safety of both the animals and visitors.
