The White House is reportedly close to nominating Christy Goldsmith Romero, a derivatives regulator, to lead the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp (FDIC) following Martin Gruenberg. Goldsmith Romero, known for her enforcement background and actions against financial firms, is favored for the role. She previously served at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and as special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, where she prosecuted major financial cases. The FDIC, facing challenges from recent bank failures, is expected to see Goldsmith Romero's nomination formally announced this week, though President Joe Biden has not yet made a final decision.
