Why China is Uninterested in the Switzerland Peace Summit?

Reported 8 months ago

Around 100 countries sent representatives to the Ukraine peace summit held in Switzerland, with only about 80 countries signing the closing statement calling for Ukraine's territorial integrity as the basis for any peace agreement. Despite efforts by Ukraine to engage China, China declined to attend citing Russia's absence as a reason. While China emphasizes neutrality and has previously meddled by not criticizing Russia directly, its decision not to participate in the summit seems to indicate lack of interest rather than support for Russia's aggression. Beijing is more focused on furthering its national interests, viewing the war as beneficial due to opportunities created by Western sanctions on Russia.
