With the hot summer approaching, more and more people are buying sashimi to cool down. Observant netizens noticed that each time they purchase sashimi, there are always plastic green leaves added to the presentation, prompting curiosity about their purpose. These plastic leaves, also known as 'Yanagiba,' are not edible; in Japanese cuisine, they serve not only as decorations but also enhance the visual appeal of the food, prevent flavors from mixing, and save costs by substituting real shiso leaves. Some Japanese dishes do use real shiso leaves to accompany sashimi, adding unique flavors and aiding digestion.
