During the Three Kingdoms period, the relationship between Guan Yu and Huang Zhong was strained, with Guan Yu openly showing his disdain towards Huang Zhong. After Huang Zhong defeated Xiahou Yuan in battle, he finally understood the reason behind Guan Yu's animosity. Guan Yu's arrogance stemmed from his overconfidence in his martial skills, leading to his downfall in the end when he underestimated the enemy. This ultimately led to his defeat and death at the hands of Wu forces. Huang Zhong's last words left Liu Bei regretful before his own death at the age of 73, contrary to the depiction in the romanticized novel 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms.'
