Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, who exposed secret U.S. military and government documents in 2010, revealing the killing of civilians by U.S. forces in the Middle East, has reached a plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice after living in self-imposed exile for 14 years to avoid extradition and legal prosecution. Following a guilty plea on one of the 18 espionage charges, he was sentenced to five years, which will be offset by the five years he spent in a UK prison. Assange is expected to regain his freedom and return to his home country of Australia within a day or two.
