Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun recently stirred up a storm in Taiwan by announcing plans to recruit 1,000 engineers and establish a large design center on the island. However, concerns were raised about the electricity limitations for the high energy-consuming AI industry. Ko Wen-je, chairman of the People First Party, pointed out that if Taiwan intends to develop the AI industry, the adequacy of electricity supply is a primary concern, especially if nuclear power plants are to be shut down. The Minister of Economic Affairs, Kuo Jih-hui, initially hinted at the possibility of extending the lifespan of nuclear power, which triggered discussions about Taiwan's energy strategies. Ko emphasized the need for rational and scientific debates on these pressing issues.
