Dr. Su Yifeng, a chest physician, suggests that the current resurgence of COVID-19 may be due to the relaxation of mask-wearing after coexisting with the virus, combined with the discomfort of wearing masks in hot summer weather. Surprisingly, respiratory viruses that peak in winter are now rampant in summer, resulting in many elderly patients being hospitalized for treatment. Ear, nose, and throat specialist Dr. Chang Yihao also noted a surge in patients with flu-like symptoms in clinics, unusual for summer when patient numbers usually decrease by about 30% compared to winter. Both flu and COVID-19 symptoms share similarities, making it necessary to use rapid tests for accurate diagnosis. Treatments for confirmed cases include antiviral medications for COVID-19 and flu, with the need for physician-guided flu testing since over-the-counter rapid tests are not available for influenza.
