The WNBA has officially announced Toronto as its first international franchise, set to start playing in 2026. The team will be owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures, led by Larry Tanenbaum, who saw an opportunity to bring women's professional sports to Toronto. With the league's popularity growing, the addition of Toronto as the 14th team is part of the WNBA's expansion plans to potentially reach 16 teams by 2028, following the recent success of college stars transitioning to the professional league.
