Woman Escapes Flooding in Guilin by Rowing Boat during Once in 30-Year Event

Reported about 1 year ago

Recently, Guilin in Guangxi Province experienced a once in 30-year flood, causing rising water levels in the Li River to inundate roads, leading to multiple areas with water accumulation and disrupted traffic. A woman on a business trip to Guilin was left without electricity or internet and had to rely on rowing a boat for transportation. A stunning aerial photo from a drone revealed the situation. With most of the city paralyzed by flooding, the woman described her isolated experience of being trapped in a hotel without power or internet for over ten hours, with water rising in the lobby. Eventually, she escaped with a kayak and reached a higher ground hotel that still had power. The flood in Guilin reached a new peak not seen in over 30 years due to continuous heavy rainfall upstream, with reports of extensive water accumulation and disrupted transportation in the city center. Luckily, the rainfall was expected to ease off, with scattered showers forecasted, and the water levels in the Li River slowly receding.
