A 34-year-old woman surnamed Jian from China, who moved to Taiwan after marriage, got into an argument with her in-laws and in frustration, took her two daughters to BiTan in New Taipei City to attempt suicide. She jumped into the water but managed to swim back to shore. She went back a second time unsuccessfully and then reported the incident to the police, prompting a search for the bodies of her two daughters. Jian, who lives with her husband, in-laws, and daughters, is now under investigation for abandonment causing death.
