A 71-year-old woman, Ms. Zhang, was misdiagnosed twice after a motorcycle accident, with emergency and orthopedic doctors initially saying 1 and 2 fractured ribs in her left chest, respectively. Still in pain, she later sought chest surgery where it was found she had 7 fractured ribs, highlighting the potential pitfalls in diagnosing rib fractures due to various factors like displacement, overlap on X-rays, or lack of visible deformities. The operating doctor emphasized the importance of seeking specialized medical care when experiencing persistent pain for quality of life.
