A 66-year-old woman, Sandra Schultz-Peters, was sunbathing on Myrtle Beach in South Carolina when she was ran over by a police pickup truck, resulting in her death. The incident caused public outrage, leading to the suspension of the involved police officer and calls for legislation to prohibit large vehicles from driving on beaches to prevent similar tragedies. This was not the first incident of a police car causing harm on the beach in Horry County, as a similar incident occurred in 2020.
