Georgia school bus maker Blue Bird workers approve first union contract

Reported 5 months ago

Workers at Blue Bird Corp., a Georgia school bus manufacturer, have approved their first union contract a year after voting to unionize. The United Steelworkers union and Blue Bird announced that the three-year contract will provide a minimum 12% raise for all 1,500 workers, with some of the lowest-paid workers seeing raises over 40%. The agreement includes contributions to a retirement plan, profit-sharing, and improved health and safety measures. This development, closely monitored by the Biden administration due to federal aid received for electric school bus production, marks a significant victory for organized labor in the historically anti-union Deep South.
