The World Bank has approved a $1 billion loan for Pakistan's largest Dasu hydropower project, being constructed in the country's northwest with the assistance of China. The loan aims to enhance hydropower electricity supply, improve local community access, and address challenges in Pakistan's energy sector. The project is expected to contribute to greening the energy sector and reducing electricity costs, with a capacity of 4,320 to 5,400 megawatts once completed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Chinese workers involved in the project have faced attacks from militants in recent years accusing them of exploiting mineral resources.
