The World Trade Organization has upgraded its forecast for goods trade growth in 2025 to 2.4% from a previous estimate of 0.9%, driven by heightened purchases of AI-related products and a spike in U.S. imports due to tariff concerns. Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala noted that the resilience in trade is also attributed to strong growth among developing countries and governments' cautious response to tariff changes. However, the WTO has lowered its growth prediction for 2026 to 0.5% from 1.8%.
