The World Trade Organization (WTO) forecasts that global goods trade growth will significantly slow down in 2026, following a strong first half of 2025. This slowdown is attributed to the delayed effects of US tariffs imposed during President Trump's administration. While merchandise trade volumes are expected to rise by 2.4% this year, the growth projection for 2026 has been revised down to 0.5%. The WTO highlights that AI-related goods significantly contributed to trade growth in 2025, while non-AI goods saw much slower increases.
