X platform hides likes to protect privacy

Reported 7 months ago

X's engineering team announced the platform, formerly known as Twitter, will now make likes private to protect user privacy. Users can still see their own likes but others cannot, discontinuing a long-used feature. The change took effect on June 12, 2024, and only users' own profile pages still show the ‘Likes’ tab. A notification suggests liking more posts will enhance the user’s feed. Like counts for users' posts will still show up in notifications, but only the author can see who liked it. The option to hide likes was previously only for Premium subscribers and was later extended to all users. Elon Musk's ownership has brought various changes to the platform, including hiding like counts and revoking blue checks for some users.
