Xi Jinping's 'US Provoking China to Attack Taiwan Theory' - Dong Liwen: China First Promoted Unifying Taiwan by Force before Blaming US

Reported about 1 year ago

According to a report in the Financial Times, Chinese President Xi Jinping told the visiting EU Commission President last year that the US was deliberately provoking China to attack Taiwan, but China would not fall into the trap. Dong Liwen, the Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Peace Research Foundation, stated that Xi Jinping initially pushed the 'military unification' of Taiwan following setbacks from the rejection of the 'one country, two systems, Taiwan plan' and the 2020 Taiwan election results. This tactic was to blame the US for inciting conflict, possibly as Xi Jinping had already secured a third term and the US had effectively established a deterrence in the Indo-Pacific region. The issue was discussed at a forum regarding the G7 Summit, European situations, and the China-Russia-North Korea axis, where scholars analyzed the interconnected dynamics. Dong emphasized the need for Taiwan to clarify its position against China's misleading blames on the US, highlighting the importance of addressing Xi Jinping's provocations influenced by securing his third term and US strategic positioning in the region.
