Yang Jinlong: Inflation Expected to Ease in the Second Half of the Year

Reported 7 months ago

Yang Jinlong, the President of the Central Bank, stated on June 13 that the inflation rate decreased gradually, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from January to May showing a year-on-year increase of 2.24%, expected to continue dropping to below 2% in the second half of the year. Despite the increase in electricity prices, effective control measures in Taiwan have contributed to the projected decline in overall inflation rates. Yang also mentioned adjustments in economic growth rates, with the CPI and core CPI estimated to be 2.12% and 2% respectively for the year. International views suggest that a flexible inflation target may be more suitable for smaller open economies like Taiwan.
