On June 28, 2024, President Lai Ching-te appointed Dong Tzu-hsien, the chairman of Wistron, as the Vice Convener of the Climate Change Committee. Dong's recent comments on nuclear power sparked debates. KMT legislator Yeh Yuan-chih questioned the need for Dong's opinions, suggesting that if Lai supports nuclear power, they should discuss it directly. Yeh criticized Taiwan Power Company for its response to recent power outages and urged the government to address practical issues over ideology. Dong's personal views should not lead to online attacks and lack of free speech in Taiwan.
