Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Taoyuan City have jointly implemented the YouBike violation point system today, accumulating 3 points will result in a 14-day suspension, and 7 points will lead to a year-long suspension where the YouBike cannot be used nationwide. This morning, Taipei City’s Traffic Department cracked down on 18 violations, all of which were related to cycling on the sidewalks. The priority for enforcement is currently on 'riding the bike on the sidewalk', with the main violations concentrated near MRT stations or underground street entrances. Violations, such as cycling on sidewalks, running red lights, riding in the opposite direction on the roadway, not giving way to pedestrians on sidewalks, using mobile phones while riding, carrying passengers, violations reported by police or other supervisory authorities, and other improper behaviors, will all be recorded with points. Despite complaints from users about incomplete bike lane planning and outdated facilities leading to fines, the crackdown aims to prevent potential traffic accidents and enforce proper bike usage.
