On July 1, 2024, at 8:40 am, reporter Shi Chunmei from SET News Network/Taipei reported that Dr. Wu Zongqin stated that a male individual who liked drinking acidic beverages and suffered from long-term gastroesophageal reflux without treatment developed esophageal cancer. Dr. Wu emphasized that esophageal cancer is among the top ten cancers in Taiwan, with common risk factors being smoking, drinking, betel nut consumption, and a diet high in temperature, but highlighted cases of a young boss who neither smoked nor drank alcohol, yet developed esophageal cancer due to enjoying acidic beverages and neglecting to treat gastroesophageal reflux.
