Koike, who emphasized 'Tokyo Big Reform 3.0' in her campaign, is a prominent figure in Taiwan and known as the 'daughter' of former Taiwanese President Lee Teng-hui in Japan. Despite expected competition from female candidate Renho, Shinnosuke Ishimaru, former mayor of Akitakata City, emerged as a dark horse securing over 1.65 million votes in second place.
