Zelenskiy Discussed Transit of Azeri Gas to EU

Reported 12 months ago

Ukraine's President Zelenskiy mentioned that Ukraine is in discussions to transit natural gas from Azerbaijan to the European Union to maintain its role as a transit country and assist western neighbors in ensuring energy security amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia. Negotiations are underway to replace Russian gas with Azeri supplies, with concerns about the current gas contract with Russia expiring at the end of 2024 and the potential for gas flows through Ukraine to cease. The use of Ukraine's pipelines could provide vital funding for the country's economy and Ukraine aims to support European countries with non-Russian gas contracts as a future EU member.
