Zhao Shao-kang: No Room for 'Turning a Blind Eye' to Cross-Border Fishing Violations

Reported 12 months ago

The Penghu fishing boat Da Jin Man 88 was suddenly inspected by Mainland Chinese maritime police on the night of July 2 and taken to Fujian's Weitou Port, sparking discussions. Former Kuomintang Chairman Zhao Shao-kang stated that under President Lai Ching-te's administration, there is no longer room for overlooking cross-border fishing violations. Zhao emphasized that the recent incident, where the boat was detained in Mainland waters while fishing during the announced 'Fishing Moratorium,' underscores the need for increased caution among fishermen amidst heightened cross-strait tensions. He called for addressing the violation on its own merits and resolving the situation promptly to prevent further escalation and political maneuvering by the Democratic Progressive Party, which could further damage cross-strait relations.
