Former mayor of Taoyuan and chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Zheng Wen-Can, was arrested and remanded for involvement in a corruption case related to the 'Hwa Ya Science Park' land scandal. The Taoyuan District Court ruled for a $5 million bail, which Zheng Wen-Can paid before leaving in a car without speaking to the media present. He is accused of receiving bribes in relation to a land expansion project, with the court holding a two-hour hearing before deciding on the bail amount.
