According to a news article from CTV News, on July 6, 2024, during his term as the mayor of Taoyuan, Chung Wen-can, the chair of the SEF, was under investigation for alleged involvement in land development corruption and bribery, requiring a bail of 5 million. There are doubts about him retaining his position, with former inspector Wu Feng-shan being a favored replacement. KMT legislator Wang Hong-wei criticized the potential appointment as futile, expressing that it would devalue the SEF. There are speculations that Wu Feng-shan is a preferred candidate by President Lai Ching-te. Wang Hong-wei questioned whether this appointment implies the SEF is merely symbolic, with the possibility of scrapping it altogether in the future.
