Before 6:40 a.m. on July 6, 2024, Taoyuan Mayor Zheng Wen-Can was alleged of corruption, with the court confirming he received 5 million in 2017 and returned it the following year to another defendant. Unable to prove it as criminal proceeds, the court ruled a 5 million bail with restrictions on residence, traveling overseas, and out at sea. Zheng Wen-Can raised the bail amount in less than half an hour, smiling as he left the prosecutor's office, refusing to comment on the allegations and maintaining silence with his lawyers blocking questions. Amidst developments, the current Taoyuan Mayor pointed out Zheng's unusual handling of land matters within Huaya Industrial Park, with Zheng denying any wrongdoing and awaiting the court's decision on the appeal made by the prosecution regarding the allegations.
