Zheng Wen-Can Released on Bail with 5 Million Raised in 30 Minutes Amid Corruption Allegations

Before 6:40 a.m. on July 6, 2024, Taoyuan Mayor Zheng Wen-Can was alleged of corruption, with the court confirming he received 5 million in 2017 and returned it the following year to another defendant. Unable to prove it as criminal proceeds, the court ruled a 5 million bail with restrictions on residence, traveling overseas, and out at sea. Zheng Wen-Can raised the bail amount in less than half an hour, smiling as he left the prosecutor's office, refusing to comment on the allegations and maintaining silence with his lawyers blocking questions.
