Zheng Wen-Can, the Pro-China Faction: Displaying Initiative as the Chairman of SEF

Reported about 1 year ago

In his short tenure as the Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), Zheng Wen-Can has actively shown a willingness to restore cross-strait exchanges. Although Zheng only served for a month before resigning amidst a corruption scandal, his efforts to restart dialogue included reaching out to various sectors, even meeting with influential figures from the blue camp, like Wang Jin-Pyng. Known as a member of the pro-China faction within the Green Party, and a key figure with a more moderate stance towards mainland China within the Democratic Progressive Party, Zheng had previously set up a cross-strait affairs working group during his tenure as the mayor of Taoyuan City. He emphasized the importance of establishing mechanisms for positive interactions between both sides. Zheng has continually expressed a desire to expand cross-strait exchanges, advocating for gradual and steady openness, with the ultimate goal of fostering peace and mutual understanding as the highest priority for Taiwan. His recent actions as SEF Chairman include expressing sympathy for flood victims in mainland China and promoting dialogue between Taiwan and China. Zheng's proactive efforts to engage with various opinion leaders from different sectors, including lawmakers from both sides, indicate a strong commitment to seeking consensus on cross-strait relations and breaking the current deadlock between Taiwan and China.
