On July 17, 2024, a department store in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, China caught on fire, leading to 16 fatalities. The fire was believed to have been caused by construction work. While the blaze was extinguished around 10 p.m., rescue operations continued until 3 a.m. the following day. Authorities confirmed the tragic loss of 16 lives, with no mention of injuries except that the wounded received proper treatment.
