The Minimum Wage Act officially took effect this year, with the minimum wage review meeting set to be held in the third quarter. Minister of Labor, He Pei-shan, revealed on July 17 that the review meeting will be held in September. He emphasized the importance of respecting the members of the review committee for any salary adjustments. Given recent trends in wage increase and this year's rise in Consumer Price Index (CPI), He is likely to include CPI in the considerations. However, the president of the Association of Junior Chamber International Taipei, Lin Bo-feng, suggested that the minimum wage increase should not exceed 3% to prevent adverse consequences such as a surge in youth unemployment rates and inflation reaching 3% in Taiwan. According to statistics from the Ministry of Labor, the basic wage has been increased for eight consecutive years, with the current monthly basic wage set at NT$27,470 and hourly wage at NT$183.
