Youth Movement: Unmanned Boats Attack Red Sea Merchant Ships, US Accuses Iran of Backing

Reported 5 months ago

On July 15, Yemeni rebel group 'Youth Movement' threatened Red Sea shipping by attacking two oil tankers with unmanned boats, fortunately causing no casualties. The attacks highlighted the group's disregard for Western efforts to deploy escort forces in the Red Sea, escalating threats to merchant ships. 'Youth Movement' claimed the attacks were in retaliation for Israel's airstrike on Khan Yunis in Gaza on July 13, targeting Panama-flagged refined oil transport ship 'Bentley I' and Libyan-flagged oil tanker 'Chios Lion.' The US Central Command accused Iran-backed 'Youth Movement' of threatening regional stability, endangering ships and crews in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and jeopardizing the safety of non-Gazan civilians. The rebel group continues to attack Red Sea merchant ships.
