European natural gas prices rose sharply after President Vladimir Putin expressed doubts about securing a new transit agreement for gas flows to Europe via Ukraine before the current contract expires. Central European nations are exploring alternative solutions, but Ukraine has rejected any proposals that would benefit Russia financially during the ongoing conflict. With the potential cessation of gas shipments from January 1, markets are anxious, although last-minute negotiations may still occur. Current gas storage levels in Europe are also declining, raising concerns over energy security.
