A fatal plane collision at Tokyo's Haneda Airport on January 2 resulted from a pilot's misunderstanding, believing he had permission to enter the runway. The Japan Transport Safety Board's 166-page report confirmed the Japan Airlines passenger jet crashed into a Coast Guard plane, killing five of its crew. The pilot misinterpreted air traffic control instructions and acted hastily, driven by urgency to deliver earthquake relief supplies. Following the incident, the Transport Ministry has initiated measures to enhance communication and warning systems for pilots.
