5 Military Officers Secretly Divert 64 Boxes of Canned Goods from Military canteen, Exposed Punishment

Reported about 1 year ago

On June 12, 2024, in Matsu, Taiwan, it was revealed that 5 military officers from the Matsu Coast Patrol command were prosecuted for embezzling 64 boxes of canned food intended for fellow troops and sending them back to Taiwan for personal consumption. The former colonel staff director was sentenced to 3 years in prison for misappropriating public property. The court also handed down various sentences to the accomplices involved, with some pleading guilty and others denying the crime. This incident stemmed from a controversy where soldiers wrote ‘No meat in the military canteen’ on a beach, leading to a social uproar last year.
