In a report released by the Ministry of the Interior on July 7, 2024, it was found that nearly 70% of renters without their own homes can afford monthly rent below 12,000 NT. More than 70% of rent subsidy applicants are interested in applying for social housing, with a preference for apartment sizes ranging from 8 to 14 ping, followed by 20 to 30 ping. The survey also highlighted challenges such as a lack of elevators and property managers in over 50% and 60% of rental properties nationwide, respectively, with Taipei having the worst conditions. Renters in different regions have varying perceptions of affordable rent, with 12,000 NT being seen as a benchmark. Demand for social housing is highest for 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units in cities like Taipei and Tainan.
