Chief executives of Europe's airlines have urged the European Union for increased support in the production and availability of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as the EU mandates its use rise from 2% to 6% by 2030. While the airlines acknowledge the existing mandates, they emphasize the lack of affordable SAF, which currently costs three to five times more than conventional jet fuel. The airline leaders are asking for greater subsidies and assistance from the European Commission to develop a functional SAF market.
