On July 2, 2024, AIT Director Sun Xiaoya expressed gratitude to Vice President Hsiao Mei-chin, highlighting the stable leadership shown amidst complex geopolitical situations and expressing belief in the continued strong development of friendship between the US and Taiwan under President Lai Ching-te and her successor's terms. Hsiao also thanked Sun for enhancing Taiwan-US relations, emphasizing US support under the Taiwan Relations Act framework. Various political figures attended the farewell event, where Sun received a special diplomacy award for her substantial contributions to deepening substantive Taiwan-US partnership and promoting cooperation in various fields. Deputy Minister Hsu Li-yen will succeed Sun as AIT Taipei Director.
