Children's medicine, whether opened or not, should not be refrigerated according to pediatrician Lin Zhiwei. Storing medicine in the fridge can lead to instability and reduced effectiveness of the medication. Pharmacist Hong Zhengxian also warns that refrigerating medicine can cause it to deteriorate faster, suggesting that unless specified, medicine should be stored indoors away from direct sunlight. Some liquid medicines like cough syrups do not need to be refrigerated and may even crystallize or deteriorate if placed in the fridge.
