On June 13, 2024, at 10:06 PM, prosecutors busted a gun and drug ring in a Kaohsiung residence, seizing 4 modified guns, 468 bullets, 2 machetes, 1 pack of methamphetamine (weighing 1.39 grams), and 4 K disks, among other tools. On June 15, National Police Day, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai praised the city's improving public safety, even recently earning a five-star city title; however, the discovery of the gun and drug ring contradicted this as investigations led to the interception of a significant amount of drugs. The crackdown was part of a sequence of events initiated by a customs tip-off in May about individuals smuggling methamphetamine into the country through online shopping methods, culminating in a large-scale drug bust and subsequent arrests.
