On June 18, 2024, despite repeated assurances from Minister of Economic Affairs Guo Zhihui that Taiwan has sufficient electricity supply, a sudden power outage occurred at the Nangang Software Park at noon, following his statement. Guo later clarified that it was a maintenance issue with the cables, not an electricity shortage, pointing out recent trends of power outages happening in crowded areas with increased electricity usage. Taiwan Power Company promptly restored power after the outage affected 655 households. Guo emphasized the need to address high-risk factors to prevent future incidents and dismissed concerns of a looming electricity shortage.
